Average

Average is to be found out by adding all the values and divide the total by the number of values.

Example : 1

Kumar has got 78% of marks in Maths, 96% of marks in English, 80% of marks in Botany and 94% of marks in Computer Science. What is his average marks?

Average = (total of marks in all the subject / the number of subjects)

Average = (78 + 96 + 80 + 94) / 4 = 348 / 4 = 87

So, his average marks = 87%.

Example : 2

Martin has travelled 229 kms in the first day of his journey, 198 kms in the second day, 201 kms in the third day and 220 kms in the fourth day of his journey. What is the average distance travelled by him in a day?

Average = the total distance travelled in all the days / the number of days

Average = (229 + 198 + 201 + 220) / 4 = 848 / 4 = 212

His average distance per day = 212 kms

Example : 3

Ravi has saved $1,200 in the first month, $1,850 in the second month, $1,900 in the third month, $2,100 in the fourth month and $2,150 in the fifth month. What is his average savings per month?

Average = total earning / the number of months

Average = (1,200 + 1,850 + 1,900 + 2,100 + 2,150) / 5

Average = 9,200 / 5 = 1,840

Average = 1,840

So, the average savings of Ravi per month is $1,840.
